What does tuition include?
Meals and lodging, riding and horse pack trips, hiking and backpacking trips, participation, coaching and instruction for ranch and camp activities, infirmary services, transportation for activities and trips.
What form of transportation do you use?
Campers are transported to and from the airport on arrival and departure day and to and from trips and activities in 15-passenger vans. Staff members above the age of 21 are all trained in a van driving course in the beginning of the summer.
Why does TVRC require yearly physicals?
TVRC is a wilderness camp that takes trips into the backcountry. Due to the nature of the experience, campers are required to have yearly physicals to keep management up to date on campers' health and well-being.
Have you had campers who were homesick?
Yes. Every summer we encounter campers who are homesick. Our staff is educated and trained on handling campers with homesickness. Campers are encouraged to participate in daily activities and form friendships. In most cases, these feelings of homesickness disappear within a few days. Can I visit my child?
The best time to visit your camper is on Sundays, but you are welcome to stop by during the week. Sunday is rodeo day and parents typically come in the afternoon to watch their child participate. If you are interested in visiting your child, please call the office to let them know and to be sure that your child is not out on a trip.
What is Final Rodeo?
Final rodeo is the day before departure day. All parents, relatives, and friends are invited to attend. Most families arrive between 11:30 and 12:00. The rodeo lasts around 4 hours and is followed by a cookout. After the cookout, families are invited to a final campfire and viewing of the summer slideshow. The night usually wraps up around 6:30. If you would like to bring guests, please contact the office with the number of people who you will be bringing so they can inform the kitchen.
How is the food?
The food service at TVRC is one of our most highly complimented areas. A staff of six chefs and assistants work hard to serve nutritious and satisfying meals. There is always plenty for seconds!
My camper needs a lot of new gear for the summer. Where do you suggest I purchase these items?
In the spring, enrolled campers will receive a packing list for this summer at TVRC. This list can be a bit overwhelming, but don't worry, there are several great places you can pick up the equipment your child needs!
The camp Trading Post has many of the items your camper may need, including a Crazy Creek chair, lariat, roping gloves, Nalgene water bottles, and duffel bags.
In addition, you can find items such as sleeping bags and gaiters on sites such as Sierra Trading Post, Campmor, REI, Mountain Hardware, and Black Diamond. A plethora of outdoor clothing (including fantastic long underwear and rain layers) can be found at Patagonia, as well as many of the sites listed above.
